REVOLUTION (noun) – an overthrow and complete replacement of an established system by the people.
Let’s face it. Family-friendly videos have awful reputations. Sure, they keep their audiences safe from violence and adult-themed content. But they also tend to water down their storylines to the point of lameness, tameness, and worst of all – boredom.
Religious film can have even worse standards of storytelling. The way that moral or biblical messages are presented often results in massive stomach groans, not humble cries of salvation.
Kids can make so many choices these days. They are flooded with stimuli from every direction. Only the coolest, funniest, most entertaining media will break through and grab their attention.
If given the option between a 1) boring, moral video or 2) fun, spectacular video with questionable values, kids will almost always pick fun.
Why can’t we have both? Why can’t “family-safe” videos avoid the “lame factor?” Why can’t kids videos be completely, totally awesome while encouraging values we want them to learn?
The answer is: they can. And they will. That, my friends, is the vision of Fresh Fruit Pie.
We can no longer push our messages haphazardly and expect them to sink in. The Internet, Satellite TV, 3G smartphones, video games, and dozens of other ways to get instant gratification fill our kids’ everyday lives. If we want to reach kids with a great message, we first need to create phenomenal entertainment to deliver those messages.
We must fight against all other entertainment products, and we must win. We must not only have better morals but also better quality than the competition. Only once we win over audience’s hearts can we speak to their minds.
It’s not easy. It’s rarely been achieved in the course of human history with kids videos. So how do we do this? What’s the secret recipe?
Here’s our strategy:
- Be bold. Be smart. Be lean.
- Take an age-old concept that everyone understands. In our case, it’s the Fruit of the Spirit.
- Re-frame these ideas in a way that speaks directly with kids. Use real-life stories, hilarious allegories, and ADD-style editing.
- Go crazy with the visuals and the humor.
- Never. Be. Boring.
It’s simple. Beautiful. Revolutionary.
